ELIZABETH KING-BENNETT

Beth King-Bennett is a passionate performer, educator, and advocate for new music. She has presented performances and masterclasses across the United States as a soloist and chamber musician, including premiers and commissions for solo saxophone, mixed duos, saxophone quartet, reed quintet, and saxophone ensemble. In 2016 she was a guest artist at the Hong Kong International Saxophonist’s Symposium and at the Szechuan Conservatory in Chengdu, China. Beth is Adjunct Instructor of Music at Dallas College-Richland and is the saxophone instructor for Richardson ISD. She maintains an active teaching studio and serves as a clinician and adjudicator, and she has taught at summer camps and festivals including Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Florida State University Band Camps, and Great Plains Saxophone Workshop.  

Beth is the saxophonist and Treasurer for Civitasolis Reed Quintet, which is a nonprofit ensemble whose mission is to engage and educate audiences of all ages, backgrounds, and communities in the arts; to create compelling and interactive music concert experiences; to promote and perform new music by and for underrepresented communities; and to engage the wider community through music education, outreach, and service. Since its establishment in 2017, Civitasolis has commissioned approximately two dozen works for reed quintet and has promoted creative musical activities including their online Reed Quintet Miniature Series, Virtual Happy Hour, and Composition Competitions.

Beth received her Doctor of Music at Florida State University, where she was a saxophone Teaching Assistant, her Master’s from the University of Iowa, and Bachelor of Music Education from DePauw University, where she was awarded a Performance Certificate for excellence in performance. Her former teachers include Geoffrey Deibel, Kenneth Tse, Scotty Stepp, and Adrianne Honnold.
